Carlos Valverde (1987): Adyton (2013)

Un portal de la calle Lérida, en Barcelona,, sin rótulo alguno,  con una puerta de vidrio esmerilado cerrada. Dentro, un estrecho descansillo que mira a una inmensa puerta de madera, grande como un muro, cerrada -o, a veces, entreabierta-, sin pomo ni cerradura. Si se logra cruzar, si se intuye cómo abrirla, un estrecho y sombrío pasillo que parece descender...
No se puede contar más.
Pocos saben llegar hasta el final.
Menos incluso afrontan el final.

El joven artista Carlos Valverde, gracias a una beca de la Fundación Botín, ha alquilado un local, de planta baja, sótano y piso) durante meses para distintas intervenciones artísticas.

La primera se titula Adyton. Dura diez días, hasta el 28 de Febrero.

Un aditon es la capilla más recóndita de un templo griego en la que mora la estatua de culto, siempre cerrada e inaccesible, invisible para la mayoría, inconcebible, también, ya que solo determinados sacerdotes están autorizados a entrar.

Pese al título, hermético, y un texto rocambolesco en inglés ("adyton is a phenomenologycal research laboratory for the spatial thinking", por ejemplo), quizá irónico, vale la pena acercarse para descubrir y sentir esta insólita "experiencia espacial", sin duda desconcertante, innovadora, y nada gratuita.

ADYTON IS GREEK FOR “INACCESSIBLE”, “NO-ENTRY SITE”.

BACK IN THE ANCIENT EGYPT, TEMPLES WERE ASSUMED AS THE PLACES WHERE DEITIES DWELL IN THE PHYSICAL WORLD. AN EGYPTIAN TEMPLE WAS USUALLY DIVIDED INTO THREE ARCHITECTURAL SECTIONS: PERISTYLON, HYPOSTYLON, ADYTON. THE ADYTON WAS THE PLACE WHERE THE REPRESENTATION OF THE DEITY WHOM THE TEMPLE WAS CONSTRUCTED FOR WAS PLACED. THIS REPRESENTATION ONTO A CONCRETE MATERIAL WAS APPREHENDED AS A PHYSICAL PERSONIFICATION OF A GOD INTO THE HUMAN WORLD, SO THE AREA WHERE THIS REPRESENTATION WAS ALLOCATED OBTAINED A QUITE PARTICULAR WAY OF USING BOTH SPACE AND ARCHITECTURE THROUGH A HUMAN-MADE TECHNICAL WORK. ONLY A SPECIFIC INDIVIDUAL –I.E. THE HIGH PRIEST OF THE TEMPLE- WAS ALLOWED TO GET INTO THE ADYTON, SO THAT EVERYONE OUTSIDE OF THIS SOCIAL STATUS THAT WOULD TRESPASS THIS ARCHITECTURAL SECTION HAD TO BE PENALIZED, USUALLY UNDER CAPITAL PUNISHMENT.
